AARP Community Challenge - Grant and volunteer support helps seniors age in place

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AARP.ORG)Thanks to an initial AARP grant, Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity began with a goal of completing 10 home maintenance and improvement projects. With tremendous generosity from local partners, donors, and volunteers, that impact grew far beyond expectations—resulting in 32 home repairs and accessibility upgrades for community members.
Staff and volunteers poured their time, skill, and heart into the work, focusing on essential exterior repairs and installing safe, sturdy ramps that help residents enter and exit their homes with confidence and dignity. In addition to installing ADA compliant ramps, yard clean-up and fence installation and repair were other common exterior home repair services offered to local residents in need.
It’s a testament to what’s possible when a community comes together with compassion and commitment.
