Our Land Fund

We need your help! In order to continue building and expanding our New Construction program to meet the rapidly growing need for affordable homeownership in your Greater Albuquerque community, we require additional land to build on.

Land Acquisition Methods:

Donations:
Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity accepts land donations from businesses and individuals.
Purchases:
GAHH may buy land, occasionally at a reduced cost, from private owners, developer partnerships or municipalities.
US Property Acquisition Fund:
This fund provides financial resources to GAHH for obtaining land for the purpose of affordable housing developments.
Gifts of Property:
GAHH accepts gifts of appreciated real estate, such as homes, vacation properties, or undeveloped land.

Factors Influencing Land Use:

  • GAHH’s ability to utilize donated land relies on factors including program requirements, local regulations and the ability to use the land for building.
  • GAHH’s main purpose is to serve families in need, not to develop land for profit.
  • A donation of land does not necessarily mean a home will be built for the donor or their family.
  • GAHH may not have the ability to accept all land donations due to program requirements or other factors.

Community Land Trusts:

  • GAHH occasionally partners with community land trusts to acquire and manage land for affordable homeownership.
  • These trusts maintain ownership of the land while GAHH sells the homes built on it to low- and moderate-income families.

Financial Support:

  • GAHH relies on donations to fund its land acquisition efforts.
  • We also have a dedicated financial institution that provides loans and other financial products to assist land acquisition and new construction.
